I’ve been a reporter since January of 1984. I began working in San Antonio for Eddie-Morris - Court Reporters and worked there from 1984 until December 1990. After that, in January of 1991, I joined Hoffman Reporting Service in San Antonio and worked for Mrs. Hoffman until the end of 1996. While at Hoffman Reporting Service, I also started working with the hard-of-hearing community, especially SHHH (Self Help for Hard-of-Hearing), and also got involved in doing closed-captioning for KLRN, the local PBS station in San Antonio. In 1996, I left Hoffman Reporting Service and I formed Ace Reporting Service and Alamo Captioning Enterprises.
My work continued to increase with the hard-of-hearing community, working with the SHHH as well as providing CART services for the Billy Graham Crusade when they came through San Antonio, as well as Showboat, the musical, and other conventions and meetings around the state. Worked with Donna Collins, Terri McGinty, Mark Kislingbury and others to present the first CART seminar in the state of Texas.
In January of 1991, I purchased Eclipse and began helping beta test about six months later. I, along with Keith Vincent, began to spend a lot of time with Jeremy Thorne in making suggestions to Jeremy on how to make the software better. Over the years, many others joined in and have made Eclipse what it is today.
In July 1998, I took a federal court position in Brownsville, Texas, and worked there until May 2003. I had one of the most advanced courtrooms, providing daily realtime feeds to my judge, the law clerks, as well as the case manager and the probation department.
In June of 2003, I left federal court and began freelancing again with Hill & Romero out of McAllen, Texas. Worked there for about six months when I had an opportunity to go to Jackson, Mississippi, and work on fen-phen depositions with Mrs. Cherie Bond, owner of Bond & Associates. That lasted for five months.
I returned to Brownsville, Texas, and worked with Hill & Romero, as well as Esquire, Compex, U.S. Legal in the south Texas area.
In July of 2005, Roger Miller invited me to come “check out” El Paso, Texas, as he was looking for a reporter and I’ve been here ever since.
I really enjoy court reporting, even after over 23 years. I've made it a point to be about as familiar as anyone with the Eclipse software and continue to help them beta test the software when Jeremy releases a new update for testing. I frequent the forums on the website as well as post articles every now and then in Newscache. I've become very familiar with macros and also with Stenolink. I've used Stenolink in many different scenarios, be it in the office, in an attorney's office, as well as in the courtroom. I've been able to have one of my scopists sit with me in the depo/court as well as be in their house several hundred miles away and successfully provide a daily copy of the transcript within a couple of hours of the event.
I hope you enjoy this website and let me know what I can do to enhance it or make it better. I'm learning and constructing it as I go, so please be patient. Thanks.
